A Call To Meet In Homes

We would do well to go back to meeting in homes and drop all the trappings of this world that have collected like barnacles on an old ship. A storm of persecution is brewing in the western world, and we ought to raise anchor and find open water before it runs us ashore and causes us to make shipwreck in the port of Laodicea.

Let's face it, the current state of the "church" is pathetic. There are so many denominations and divisions, and very few of them even slightly resemble new testament Christianity. Many Christians now find themselves unable to find a church that they can attend with a clear conscience, let alone one that properly represents Christ to the world or "equips the saints for the work of ministry" (Eph. 4:12). It is common place for churches to be completely absorbed in their endeavor to entertain the goats, while the sheep are starving in the pews, or being forced to wander the hills in solitude. The well oiled machine of modern industrialized evangelicalism, cares for little else than filling it's buildings with paying customers...

Christ's church is not a corporation, building, or a 501c3 tax exempt non-profit organization! It is a called out and holy people, who collectively are Christs body and bride. Don't get me wrong. I'm not against all large gatherings, and if you can find a "church" in your area that is faithfully preaching the Word of God, by all means, go there and hold fast as long as you can. However, the large gatherings of modern institutional "churches", cannot fulfil the "one another" commands given to the ekklesia/people of God. Many churches are beginning to recognize this, and are creating "small groups" to try and fill the void left by the large gatherings, but most are just creating an illusion instead of a reality. Just another program to entertain, and ease your conscience. Just another form of Godliness without any reality or spiritual value.

They are many who warn against house churches, as being dangerous and unnecessary, and while there are many examples of house churches who are in fact just as unhealthy, or worse than modern church gatherings... it is not merely the form that is to blame, but the hearts of those who are forming these assemblies. So please understand. House churches alone will not fix the problem, but among sincere believers it can(with other biblical principles of church government) eliminate many traps and snares that are inherently part of the modern church structure.

In time we will seek to thoroughly discuss and establish theses principles from the scripture, that you may be equipped to implement them in your own life, and help your local assembly to do the same.
